BUT! I’m here to announce a show this month where I will be showcasing some new songs. Please put the following date and location down in your calendar: Friday, February 12th @ Santos Party House, located between the TriBeCa and Chinatown sections of NYC (96 Lafayette St.)… Tickets are only $10 at the door and I go on at 7:30pm (SEE FLYER BELOW).

My New Year’s Resolution: BLOG MORE!

Friends… Romans… Countrymen… Everyone else…. HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope we all danced into the new year with grace. I, personally have three resolutions for my twenty-ten.

Well, did you read the title of this update? I, Brooks Lee Wood, resolute that I will keep my fans more up to date on what’s going on with my music via THIS BLOG. I further resolute that these more frequent updates will include relevant pictures and videos to help support the main topics of the blog. ie: Booyah.
I feel like 2009 was a year where I just couldn’t show up to anything on time. I am known in my circle of friends as “that guy that shows up at halftime.” So 2010 is gonna be different. I, Brooks Lee Wood, resolute that I will arrive to gatherings, functions, and yes, even my own performances, on time and maybe even a little ahead of schedule, unless of course it’s “one of those” parties in which it is known as being “fashionable” to be late, in which case I will arrive no more than an hour tardy. For the party. Punctuality will be my middle name… After “Lee.”
And last but not least: I, Brooks Lee Wood, resolute that I will not have A.D.D. and finish the songs that I start on. One completed song, every single week. You call it inconceivable… I call it… uh… conceivable…

In some “upcoming show” news, I will be playing a short set of my original music on Wednesday, January 27th at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC’s lower east side. I go on at 6pm. This is definitely one of my favorite venues I’ve ever played. Any night of the week, you can see some of the best singer/songwriters in the scene. On top of that, every single show (yes, including mine) is FREE! Never a cover. This will be my third time there and I feel blessed to have them give me such a warm welcome into this new city. PS: according to this blog update, I should have 2 or 3 new songs to share with you all I hope you can make it.

New CD is so close!

It’s me again, folks. B-dubya here to update you on the status of the new CD. We are finally in the mixing stages and working with acclaimed mixing guru, Micah Wilshire. The tracks are finally taking shape and I couldn’t be happier with the way they are sounding. Stay tuned for more CD news soon.

In other CD news, I’m currently listening to John Mayer’s new release, “Battle Studies.” So far, so good… But not sure if it’s going to come close to “Continuum” for me. We’ll see how it grows. Still, definitely worth the money. Get it.

In other random news, Lauren McGee is awesome. That is all.

Back at Rockwood!

I hope everyone is doing well and staying warm as the weathers changing. The long-awaited new CD by Brooks Wood Band (ironically called, “Good Timing”) is finally almost ready. We’ve heard some rough versions of the new songs and we couldn’t be happier or more excited about getting the finished product out there. It’s been a long time coming, but I PROMISE, it’s almost here. Stay tuned.

For those of you in the New York City area, I’ve got a show coming up on Saturday, November 14th at Rockwood Music Hall. This will be an early gig (5:00pm!!!), but I’ll be previewing some new material and hopefully having some pre-release (aka, burned) copies of the new BWB album. Hope to see you there.

DC Peeps Where You At?!

Howdy howdy. Hope you fine folks are doing well. Just wanted to let you know about a show I’m going to be a part of coming up this Sunday night, August 30th in Washington DC, at DC9. The Nine has become a monthly night of music from 9 different singer/songwriters from across the region. Hosted by Justin Trawick, this will surely be a fun night of music. Howdy everyone. First of all, I want to thank everyone for helping me have a packed house for my Googie’s show last week. It was a great success!

The new date to put on your calendar is Tuesday, August 25th. I’m playing another early slot at the legendary Rockwood Music Hall. I’ll be doing a 45-minute set starting at 7:00pm. Word on the street is that there will be some muy importante people in the building that night. After party to follow. Can’t wait to see everyone!

Digital Inspiration

I’m sitting in traffic, trying to make it home for father’s day. I have this melody in my head for a new song about my dad, and I swear I’m either ripping off the Beatles or Tom Waits, can’t decide. Anyway, as I’m writing what will most likely be some songs on my first solo cd, I want to know what everyone out there wants to hear a song about. So let me know, and be as specific as you can… ie. Instead of saying “love,” say “write about how no matter how many times a girl kicks you in the nards, you still have a thing for her.” ohhh man, I’ve gotta go… I just had a brilliant idea for a song.

Writing new songs, BBQ, & Gabe Dixon Band

Getting into writing mode is tough sometimes. After you’ve written a “body of work,” you ride that rollercoaster out and milk them for all they’re worth. Then people start asking for more - something new. You almost have to remove yourself completely from “performing mode” and get into “create mode.” Atleast, that’s the way it’s been for me in my songwriting career. However, I find this method to be highly inefficient compared to the new practice I’m trying to get into - ALWAYS WRITING. If you’re an artist, your muses are around you all the time. And if you’re not always writing, you could miss a good chance at a great song. This realization, coupled with the fact that I’m disappointed in my new song production of late, is why I’m going to get back on that songwriting horse.

Another subject I wanted to touch on - BBQ. I got into a pretty heated discussion recently, defending the fact that eastern NC style BBQ is way better than that of “west of Raleigh” style BBQ (or anywhere else in the world for that matter). Deal with it. It just is. I don’t feel like I need to discuss this any further.

Last, but certainly not least, I’d like to mention a great band I was just turned onto - a nashville trio, the Gabe Dixon Band. I saw these guys open for Dave Barnes in New York a few months ago, but am now just getting around to getting their stuff on iTunes. These songs are kicking my ass. Great players, smooth voice, and amazing songwriting. I highly suggest you go out and get their self-titled album right now. I dig mucho.

Howdy. I’m finally getting used to blogging on a regular basis now. I’m getting a lot of good feedback about my new site - thanks again everyone for helping me spread the word. I’ve just got a few quick things to update you on.

On Thursday, June 4th, I am playing at my band’s long-time stomping ground - Pour House Music Hall in downtown Raleigh. This will be a very unique show as it is a night of singer/songwriters, singing and telling the stories behind their songs. It’s shaping up to be a fun night. Also on the bill is Caruso - a trio featuring Sam Fisher of Weekend Excursion fame, Mark Kano - from the longtime regional powerhouse, Athenaeum, and good friend and fellow troubadour, Justin Trawick. This will be my last big show before I move out of Raleigh.

Tickets are $7 at the door that evening. Doors open at 8pm with the first act going on at 9pm. Please try and make it out. Oh, and if you’re on Facebook, make sure you check out the EVENT PAGE.

In other, yet related, news, I am moving to NYC this coming July, in hopes of spreading my music to as many people as possible without falling flat on my face in the process. I have called Raleigh my home for the past 8 years and I’m pretty sad to say “see you later” (not “goodbye”) to this town. I know Raleigh like I know the back of my hand and it’s going to be tough starting all over - especially in a slightly larger city ;), but NYC is where my heart compass is pointing right now, and I have to follow it.

In other, and less sad, news, the highly anticipated Brooks Wood BAND CD (you know - the one that was slated for release back in August of 2008), will finally be finished during the next two months. Nobody is more excited about this than me and I can’t wait to get these songs in everyone who loved our music’s ears. Keep checking back for updates on its progress.
